Individual Therapy with Donald Fleck
Clients can choose from a variety of approaches:
- Traditional psychotherapy with mindfulness introduced from time to time, when most useful
- Mindfulness-based psychotherapy, in which a course of treatment is planned focused on the use of mindfulness. Using mindfulness meditation for awareness of the present, practicing allowing, acceptance and wise action as energy for forward movement.
- Mindfulness instruction, in which various mindfulness practices are practiced and internalized.
These elements are described in Donald’s book:
A New and Comprehensive Approach to Mindfulness in Psychotherapy
This book introduces new ways for mindfully working with the problems and difficulties. It is endorsed by Zindel Segal, Ph.D., author of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression.
The therapist’s traditional approach has often been to look at a problem and work on fixing it. This book answers the question, “What happens when we simply allow feelings to be present? What new choices appear when we are centered? What happens when we work towards acceptance of things we cannot change? When calm, what wise actions come to mind?”
Traditional therapy works to reduce suffering.
Mindful therapy, accepting that suffering will happen, works to increase tolerance, so that we can see clearly and respond wisely, rather than react.
