Loving Yourself - Guided Meditation

By Michelle Morrison

In this updated take on traditional metta (loving-kindness) practice, we generate and send sincere wishes of well-being towards ourselves.

Many of us feel that we are somehow undeserving of love. We believe that if we were somehow different, then we might be loveable - but not now. Tara Brach calls this way of thinking the "trance of unworthiness." It is a trance, because it is an inaccurate perception of reality, and also because it colors all of our thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Loving-kindness meditation is one way to wake up from the trance. With practice, it can transform the fear and aversion that lie deep in our consciousness into love and kindness.
